Bronx man charged with attempted murder for assault on police precinct

A Bronx man who allegedly ambushed two NYPD officers on patrol and attacked the 41st Precinct station house in two separate incidents has been indicted on attempted murder and other charges, according to the Bronx District Attorney’s Office. 

Robert Williams, 45, was arraigned on multiple attempted murder, assault, and weapons charges before Bronx Supreme Court Justice George Villegas on March 4, 2020.

Ambush on Simpson Street

According to the District Attorney’s Office, Williams shot at two police officers sitting inside a marked van at 906 Simpson Street at around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, February 8, 2020. One of the officers was struck and sustained injuries to his chin and neck. Williams fled the scene. 

Assault on Precinct 41

At around 7:45 a.m. the next day, Williams walked into the 41st Precinct at 1035 Longwood Avenue and started shooting. A police lieutenant was struck in the arm. Williams entered a side room and continued shooting until he ran out of bullets. When officers returned fire he threw himself to the ground and surrendered. Williams was taken into custody. 

District Attorney Darcel Clark commended the officers for using restraint.
