Upstate New York college student indicted on weapons charges

Maximilien Reynolds, 21, came to the attention of authorities when an employee of the Walmart store in Ithaca, New York, contacted the Ithaca Police Department on March 7 to report a suspicious purchase. A man later identified as Reynolds had used a gift card to buy ammunition, knives, drill bits, hacksaw blades, camping gear, tools, and other items.

According to the complaint, two local FBI agents and an officer from the Ithaca Police Department were dispatched to his apartment around 2 p.m. the same day.

NYC postal worker admits to stealing letters from US mail

The U.S. Postal Service Processing and Distribution Center at 341 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan.

On June 14, Josefina Salas, 66, of the Bronx, New York, pled guilty to one misdemeanor count of obstructing the passage of the mail pursuant to a plea agreement with the government. She faces a maximum sentence of 6 months in prison, up to $5,000 in fines, and possible restitution.

According to the criminal complaint, Salas worked as an elevator operator at the U.S. Postal Service Processing and Distribution Center at 341 Ninth Avenue in Manhattan. She has been employed by the USPS since 1999. Salas’ annual salary was $58,252 according to data from FedsDataCenter.com.

Former headmaster of Dalton School accused of sexual abuse

On June 7, 2018, a former student of the Dalton School filed a lawsuit alleging that former Headmaster Gardner P. Dunnan sexually assaulted her while she was living in his home in the fall of 1986.

Dunnan denied the allegations in a statement issued the same day.

This is the second post in a series about two separate but related federal criminal cases: USA v. Casado, and USA v. Zarrab. The first post focused on the recent indictment of federal correctional officer Victor Casado for allegedly taking bribes to smuggle contraband into jail. This post focuses on the case against businessman Reza Zarrab who pled guilty to violating U.S. sanctions against Iran in October 2017.

Casado and Zarrab are roughly the same age, 35 and 34, respectively, although they come from very different backgrounds. Their fates became linked after Zarrab was transferred to the federal jail where Casado works in lower Manhattan in mid-2016, and Casado allegedly solicited a bribe from Zarrab.

Anthony Mascuzzio sentenced to 7 years in prison

Anthony Mascuzzio, 38, of Brooklyn, New York, was sentenced to 7 years in prison on Friday for his role in two 2016 bank burglaries.

Mascuzzio was part of a crew that burglarized an HSBC bank in Brooklyn and a Maspeth Federal Savings Bank in Queens. They used oxygen and acetylene torches to cut through the roofs and into the vaults of both banks. According to prosecutors, the total amount of the loss is almost $21 million.

The crew also included Michael Mazzara, Charles Kerrigan, and Christopher Kerrigan.
