Upstate New York woman sentenced to 4 years in prison for lying to grand jury

A woman who lied to a federal grand jury about her cousin’s role in a murder was sentenced to 48 months in prison on October 16, 2020. 

Shanna Smith, 26, of Buffalo, NY, had previously pled guilty to making false declarations before a grand jury and obstruction of justice. U.S. District Judge Lawrence Vilardo also sentenced Smith to 3 years of supervised release.

Man pleads guilty to burglarizing post office

A man who stole a van from Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City and burglarized a post office in Connecticut has pleaded guilty to burglary of a U.S. Post Office and interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut. 

Leon Clinedinst, 37, pleaded guilty in federal court in Bridgeport, Connecticut on September 3, 2020. He is facing a sentence of up to 15 years in prison.

Upstate New York letter carrier indicted for stealing mail

A letter carrier who allegedly stole gift cards from the mail has been indicted for mail theft, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York.

Thomas J. Joslin, 57, of North Syracuse, was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service from at least 2015 to 2019.

NYC man charged with grand larceny for using stolen identities to buy luxury cars

A man who allegedly used other people’s identities to buy several luxury cars has been charged with grand larceny, identity theft, and other crimes, according to Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz.

Guang Jin, 33, of Queens, NY, was arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on August 13, 2020. He is due back in court in September. 

Jin is facing up to 12 years in prison.

Man pleads guilty to robbing banks wearing latex mask

Update: Ferrone was sentenced on November 17, 2020.

A man who robbed three banks wearing a disguise including a high-quality latex mask has pleaded guilty to three counts of bank robbery, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York.

Nicholas R. Ferrone, 29, of Utica, NY, robbed three banks in Western New York between August and December 2019. He is scheduled to be sentenced on September 29, 2020.
